OneBookAZ Grand Finale

The ONEBOOKAZ month-long festival will be culminated by a large, inviting, wide-open celebration at The Phoenix Zoo on Saturday, April 24, 2004. Colorful, dynamic signage will herald the day's activities. A lifeboat run ashore greets visitors at the front entrance, with a placard sharing synopsis' of featured books. Music strains of the continents of India and Africa will waft through the air, pulling in visitors. A full complement of engaging, interactive presentations will introduce the zoo's thousands of visitor's to spotlighted, Life of Pi and The Warm Place .

There will be discounted entry ticket of $5/- per head (adult or kid) for those participating in the program and wearing a ONEBOOKAZ pin (from your local library) or ToysRUs pin from ToysRUs or your local library.

The Phoenix Zoo Doors Open
All Day Long
“Children's Art Corner” fills the Plaza de Los Ninos with drawing boards on easels spread oughout the multi-leveled educational space. Children wear artist's smocks and are encouraged to create their own masterpiece honoring their favorite animal.
10:00AM to 12:00PM
The Greater Phoenix Orienteering Club organizes excursions from the main plaza. Guests learn basic tenants of survival, the orienteering process, and the effective use of compasses and maps.
10:00AM to 11:30AM
Lead by World Music expert Jeff Jones, music celebrating Africa will resound throughout Harmony Farm.
10:30AM to 11:00AM
The dramatic vista of the Savannah with the majestic giraffe family is a perfect backdrop for “The Warm Place” moderated roundtable discussion featuring Phoenix Zoo experts talking about elements of Nancy Farmer's popular children's book. Q & A will be invited as well.
11:00AM to 12:30PM
The India Association of Phoenix welcomes visitors to the Savannah to hear the stirring authentic music from India.
12:00PM to 12:45PM
Taking place just a few feet from the elegant gaunt of the Sumatran Tiger (homage to tiger Richard Parker), this “Life of Pi” moderated roundtable discussion features Phoenix Zoo experts talking about elements of Yann Martel's award winning book. Q & A will be invited as well.
1:00PM to 3:00PM
